- Okay, we're here in a very upscale neighborhood here in Manhattan. As you can see I've kind of dressed up a little bit, because as a street photographer, I always kind of want to blend into the surroundings. I think wearing a jacket here, I tend to blend in a little bit better. I'm also using a telephoto lens. Now, I don't use a telephoto lens very often. I don't actually like to use a telephoto lens. There's nothing wrong with using a telephoto, because the telephoto offers up opportunities you're not going to get with a wider angle. It's also a way to ease into your street photography. It allows you to stay further back, and still get some really interesting great shots. What the telephoto gives you is that compression. It also gives you a very strong isolation. By using a wide aperture and selective focus you can really make whatever you deem to be interesting in the street scene pop right out of the frame with your telephoto lens.
