Inspiring illustrator: Marty Cooper

- Creative drawing doesn't have to be complicated, and keeping the process simple can lead to fun and inventive results. A great example of this can be found in the transparent cel drawings of San Francisco artist Marty Cooper, also known as Hombre McSteez. He likes to call his brand of drawing augdemented reality. So let me show you how he leverages his drawings to create his own unique reality. When Marty approaches the various topics he likes to draw out, his methodology is pretty simple. He has sheets of transparent film and he draws with a Sharpie on one side, and then he paints with Wite-out on the backside of it to create almost a cel that you would see in an animation studio, but instead of keeping it on a pasteboard where a camera shoots it, he holds it up with one hand, as seen here in a library and a microfiche projector, and then he takes a photograph with it with his (laughs) other hand.
