- Research questions are only difficult to write because they can be difficult to conceptualize. Once you've thought about all of the development strategies for research, variables, and frameworks, the research questions becomes a scholastic version of a Mad Lib, plugging the right words into the right categories. A research question needs to be clear and concise, so your audience can easily follow the path of the argument and research. There are three basic research question types your study can fall into. Let's start with a relational question, which looks at how two or more variable relate to one another. It'll usually have the word relationship in the question. Like, what is the relationship between childhood poverty and graduation rates among college students? In a relational question, the independent variable childhood poverty will come before the dependent variable graduation rates. And the group is college students.
