- [Instructor] Beyond these hardware solutions, two software methods are available to address a slow PC. The first thing you should do is check for malware. Bring up the settings app, press the Windows and i keyboard shortcut, and there's the settings app. Choose update and security. (mouse clicking) Windows security on the left. And on the right, you choose virus and threat protection. Windows automatically scans for viruses and other malware. An infection can slow down your computer and it will be caught and noted. When you see threats found on this screen, take the recommended action to deal with the problem, which usually involves quarantining the suspected file. The second thing you can do, which isn't as alarming as suspecting a virus, is to use ReadyBoost technology to help add some pep to your PC. This trick works only with desktop systems.
