- I wanna get into a little bit of just playing rhythm with Whisky Before Breakfast here at the basic curriculum. I know a lot of folks that are new to flat picking, they're also new to just playing guitar in general. And it's such an important part of this style of music, to be able to understand as much as you can about playing rhythm and keeping rhythm sort of churning, just like we talk about keeping the flat pick churning during these melodies. We want a certain kind of consistency in the rhythm. And so there's a couple little good points to bring up here, with Whiskey Before Breakfast, just to establish a couple of fundamental things here. We have the capo on, playing in the key of D, using our C shape here, and so, as you read along here in the tab, you'll see D, G and A and E minor, but part of, it's part of learning bluegrass in this way, learning to read tabs and things like that.
