- Spelling is important and even if you're not a great speller, there are many tools out there to help. We live in the era of spellcheck, which is like great basic insurance, but since spellcheck only corrects words that are reasonably close to the correct spelling, it's not foolproof. Being a strong speller used to be a more heavily valued skill and since we rely less on handwritten communication, we have less incentive to keep our skills fresh. Let's take a look at a few examples of commonly misspelled words and some methods to remember how they're spelled. Here's my top 10 list of poorly spelled usual suspects I've compiled from my own experience and research. A more comprehensive list is available for your review in the exercise files.
